Once Upon a Time

ONCE UPON A TIME

Sleeping beauty glanced one day
to see a prince approach her way.
He didn’t stand a chance because,
attraction has the strangest laws.

Once upon a fabled time
I met a woman friend of mine.
She bared her walks upon the earth,
and spoke to me of song and verse.

Rainbow sunshine in her hair
as I watched her standing there.
I saw her in some other way,
and then she turned and walked away.

Once upon a time….

History repeats itself,
and hearts are put back on the shelf.
Her distance was so very near.
Her closeness was quite far from here.

Once I felt the angel’s glad.
Once I knelt from feeling sad.
Once I got to breathe her in,
when once I saw her once again.

Once upon a time….

Sleeping Beauty sleeps alone
’cause she always stays at home.
The prince still visits all the time
paying for his awful crime.

When dragons walked a bladed land,
she carried beauty in her hands.
Once she sang a saddened song.
Once I hoped we’d both belong.

Now she gathers round about,
in dreams she whispers and she shouts.
She floats through meadows, when I look,
and drifts along a haloed brook.

Once upon a time….

Sleeping Beauty sleeps alone
’cause she always stays at home.
The prince still visits all the time
paying for his awful crime.
